Action and inter-Actions

The monitoring of the intention-action-effect relation contributes to the definition of ourselves as agents and, ultimately, as inter-agents. By acting and by inter-acting, we show our thoughts and pursue our goals, through feedback processes that allow a constant regulation of the our everyday experiences. The issues of action and inter-action are at the core of neuropsychology, because complex sensorimotor neural networks – interconnecting cortical and subcortical structures – are  the basis of such functions.

At the analytical level, gesture and its representation are considered as part of action dynamics. Moreover, gesture planning and execution are paralleled with language functions.

Motor Imagery subtopic

Motor imagery has been studied using subjective, behavioural and physiological methods. Recent studies of spatial and motor working memory signify the importance of a primarily visuo-spatial component in which actions are consciously represented together with a motoric component which must be activated to generate either images or actions.

Action and Intention – subtopic

Action and intention are two important areas of research. In these context the mirror system is only one component of a more complex circuit involved in the execution, imitation, simulation or observation of an action and also in the creation and understanding of intentions.
