Neuroscience of communication

Communication is a form of social activity; more precisely, it is an agent's intentional attempt to affect a partner's mental states. The main components of communicative exchange (non-verbal components; facial expressions) are elicited in specific contexts. Neuropsychological approach to pragmatic components of language analyzes encoding and decoding processes, and cognitive factors that play a role in language and communication. Neuropragmatics is the theoretical and empirical study of the mental events involved in human communication within-the-contexts.

Irony and Metaphor ?subtopic

Irony is a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance between what a speaker or a writer says and what he or she means, or is generally understood. All the different senses of irony revolve around the perceived notion of an incongruity between what is said and what is meant; or between an understanding of reality, or an expectation of a reality, and what actually happens.

Metaphor has been usually explained as a linguistic process which takes place as a function taking place on literal language. However this explanation does not fit well with some of the recent work on right hemisphere processing of language or recent cognitive studies, both of which suggest that the figurative and literal language are processed simultaneously and share much structure.

Pragmatics and Metacognition ?subtopic

Language is a codex. The most of communication richness relies on how we use that codex: we are able to communicate more than we explicitly state. This competence is studied by pragmatics. Metacognition refers to another basic ability in relation management: the active adaptive interpretation and understanding of other's mental states.
